“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight, but no vision.“ – Helen Keller
A Spirit for Helping
My Chiropractic quest began at an early age as an islander where I was surrounded by beautiful people who had the “aloha spirit.” Growing up on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii, where family, culture, and hospitality are a way of life, set the stage for my realization that my passion was to be in a career field where I could help and serve others.
Life Changing Experiences
Continuing on a journey to help people in changing their lives, my skills were enhanced through my experiences as a personal trainer, licensed massage therapist, and physical therapist assistant. These experiences paved the road to aid and teach others about their optimal health and wellness.
My Journey through Chiropractic Education
With encouragement from supportive parents and my clients, my quest to help individuals gain body wellness while simultaneously reaching my full potential continued. This was a turning point and when I made the decision to enroll in Chiropractic School. My Doctorate in Chiropractic was earned in the San Francisco Bay area at Life Chiropractic College West. Life West offered the most diverse techniques to treat all conditions and illnesses. The Doctorate studies were the same as medical school programs, with additional training in the nervous system and musculosketal system. As a scholar it was a privilege to perform and externship at the public Health Center while being mentor by Doctors; as a student I was able to diagnose and treat patients, enhancing people’s lives.
Holding On To My Vision
Halfway through Chiropractic School I reached a turning point when my retinas became detached. After surgery I lost my physical sight, but chose not to lose my vision. I was able to finish Chiropractic School, and through this challenge I was fortunate to learn to use my tactical senses to enhance my chiropractic skills. This taught me that in helping patients, it is not about seeing them on the outside. Instead, it’s about developing professional relationships with patients and communicating comprehensively with the body through exams and treatments in order to achieve great results. The lesson was clear; no one doctor has X-ray vision. In essence, they cannot see how much pain a patient is in, or how poorly the joints are moving. But, tactical senses are a true advantage because I can “see” where the problem is hindering the patient.
Building A Holistic Practice
These experiences helped me to build a comprehensive practice. At Spring Family Chiropractic we are not just a clinic, we are Colorado Springs first Holistic Wellness Clinic! We believe that every person has a right to a healthy body. As a Christian health provider we believe that, “The power that makes the body… heals the body!” We are mindful that each patient has different needs. At Spring Family Chiropractic we have comprehensive exams, individualized treatment plans, and regular monthly reexaminations.
Our Practice also offers:
- Massage therapy
- Allergy treatments
- Detoxification treatments
- Sports injury treatment
- Neuropathy treatments
We also offer 3D exams that show individualized images and graphs of patients’ illnesses and progress.
A Joyful Family
When I’m not at work I am committed to spending time with my sweetheart, family, and son. These are among my favorite and cherished pastimes. We like going on frequent adventures, for example; paddle boarding, tubing, hiking, and swimming. We enjoy taking our service dog, Charlotte, and son, Nicholas, to the park. Charlotte has three favorite hobbies; playing, eating and seeking attention!
We are joyful in living a healthy balance life style. Some of our favorite things to do are cooking at home, exercising, and visiting with friends. Our family lives and takes pride in practicing the healthy lifestyles we teach our patients. Among these we have weekly detoxification treatments and adjustments to maintain optimal health.
In The Community
In addition, I do volunteer work here in Colorado Springs at the School for the Blind and Deaf, encouraging others to overcome obstacles. Touching people’s lives at “Relay for Life,” a cancer nonprofit organization, has humbled me and taught me the true meaning of valuing each moment to live healthy.
